Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I view pictures of the new Library design?
Why is the library undergoing a major renovation?
As Anoka County Library prepares for the future needs of residents, library buildings are being adapted for greater flexibility. When Northtown Library reopens, it will offer:
- a drive-through book return,
- larger children’s room,
- teen room, more computers,
- more seating, study areas and conference rooms,
- accessible restrooms,
- more flexible floor plan for the future.
When will the construction start and how long will the project take?
The library will close on March 17, 2014. We anticipate the library re-opening in late June 2014.
How much will this cost and where is the money coming from?
The total project budget is estimated to be between $925,000.00 and $1,050,000.00. Funds will come primarily from Anoka County Library’s building fund with $150,000.00. from a state library grant through the MN Dept. of Education.
Will all of the furnishings be replaced?
Almost all of the furnishings and shelving will be reused. New framing for the current shelves will provide lower shelving which will improve sightlines and lighting. The only change to the staff area will be the addition of a conveyer belt to provide drive-through book return.
What will happen to the books and other library materials during the renovation?
Northtown’s books and other materials will be placed in storage during the renovation. They will be returned to the Northtown Library, along with the addition of new materials, when the library re-opens.
Where will staff go during construction?
Northtown Staff will be preparing the library for closing and re-opening. They will also be working at other libraries in Anoka County during the closed period.
